Cancer treatment maybe part of Centre’s insurance policy

COIMBATORE: The health ministry is studying a proposal to include cancer treatment under the Ayushman Bharat Prime Minister Jana Yojana, said Union minister of state for health Ashwini Kumar Choubey. He said the Centre was providing three types of cancer treatment currently under a different scheme, and was now studying a proposal to bring it under the central government’s insurance policy.
The minister who was in the city to inaugurate a free paediatric oncology ward at Sri Ramakrishna Hospital and talk about his “war against cancer” campaign, was asked why cancer was not included in the prime minister’s health insurance scheme. “Cancer can exhaust a person emotionally and mentally and Ayushman Bharat is one of the schemes to help the common man deal with such major diseases,” said Choubey.
